See this play-hookey.com page for a good introduction to sequential circuits.

Here, you'll be able to play with clocked flip-flop circuits and see what happens when your "tick" the clock on, and "tock" the clock off.

Also, we often don't want anything more than a brief clock pulse when ticked on.
