I started working through the book about 18 months ago and completed part 1, having learnt a tremendous amount and found it very enjoyable!
Then I read chapter 6, Assembler, and realized I needed to learn a programming language - Basic doesn't really cut it these days!
After some research I settled on the on-line EdX course from MIT, '6.00.1x - An Introduction to Computer Science & Programming in Python'. What a great experience - the certificate is proudly stuck to the fridge!
So, armed with my new knowledge of Python I've just finished chapter 6 and feeling quite proud of myself!
This is a great self-teaching book, well written and well structured. I'm convinced it would make a great on-line course on a platform like EdX, which would greatly increase the accessibility of this wonderful material.
So, on to Virtual Machine 1....
