GUI buttons not showing up

Hello, ran the hardware simulator for the first time.
However it does not show the button's icons so it is very difficult to use at the moment.

My machine is running windows 10 64 bit
and I have Java 8 JRE build 1.8.0_261-b12

Help is appreciated, thanks.
